Q1. Why is York Region introducing a Multi-unit Residential Clothes Washer Rebate Program?
Inefficient clothes washers can waste thousands of litres of water each year. By switching to an eligible water-efficient clothes washer model, you will effectively reduce water-use in your building, minimize your environmental footprint and save money on your water bill. For a complete list of eligible models click here.
Q2. Who is eligible to participate in the Multi-unit Residential Clothes Washer Rebate Program?
To be eligible to participate in the program you must own or operate an existing multi-unit residence in York Region and meet the following eligibility requirements:
Q3. The clothes washer which I've purchased has an ENERGY STAR® label but it is not on the list of eligible models.
On January 1, 2011, ENERGY STAR® qualifications were updated to meet increasing energy and water efficiency technology. To ensure approval of your application please ensure the clothes washer is listed on our website prior to purchase. The qualifying list is updated frequently but if you have any questions about a specific model's eligibility please email us at info@waterfortomorrow.ca
The program provides $100 rebates to property owners who replace inefficient clothes washers with new eligible high-efficiency models.
Q5. Is there a limit on how many clothes washer rebates per multi-unit residential building?
No, there is no limit on how many rebates may be issued per multi-unit residential building, however, the clothes washers must be installed in a communal/shared laundry room. The clothes washer(s) must be installed on the premise and inspections will be conducted to ensure the clothes washer(s) are installed on the premise.
Q6. Will York Region really inspect installed clothes washer(s)?
Yes, applicants must allow for an inspection of the installed clothes washers in order to receive a rebate.
Q7. Why does York Region inspect clothes washers?
We perform inspections to confirm that rebates were given for eligible clothes washers that were installed and, thus, saving water in York Region. This will help verify the water saved and the success of the program. Inspections will also help us to evaluate customer satisfaction which will improve the program.
Q8. May I receive a rebate if I purchase my clothes washer through a contractor?
Yes, you can still receive a rebate if you purchase an eligible clothes washer through a contractor. Ask your contractor to ensure the make and model of the clothes washer purchased and installed is clearly stated on the receipt along with the company or contractor's name and contact information. If the make and model is not clearly stated on the receipt, there will be a delay in processing your application and your application may not meet the terms and conditions of the program.
Please note: Contractors may not apply for rebates on their clients behalf.
Q9. How long until I receive my rebate cheque?
The rebate cheque will take approximately eight to 10 weeks upon receipt of completed application. You can check the status of your rebate online or via telephone. Please allow four weeks for mail-in rebate forms to be received before checking the status.
Q10. May I use standard laundry soap in my high-efficiency clothes washer?
Please refer to the clothes washer user manual or manufacturer's website for recommended laundry detergent.
Q11. How do I dispose of my used clothes washer(s)?
Applicants are responsible for arranging the proper method of disposal for the used clothes washer(s).
