Why Choose WaterSense® ?

WaterSense logo

Look for the WaterSense® label to choose bathroom fixtures that save water without sacrificing quality. WaterSense®  labelled products provide the high level of performance consumers expect, while using at least 20 per cent less water than conventional models. Products are independently tested by certified labs to ensure quality results.

Installing a WaterSense® labelled toilet, faucet and showerhead in your main bathroom can save you more than 25,000 litres of water every year.  That's enough water to do four loads of laundry a week for six months! Make the switch to WaterSense®  today and the only place you'll notice the change is in your water bill.

York Region offers a $75 rebate for residents and businesses replacing older, inefficient toilets with WaterSense®  labelled models.  Click here for full details.

Visit the WaterSense® website for more information on WaterSense®  certification, including a full listing of qualified products.

 WaterSense® Partnership Program

The Regional Municipality of York is pleased to be one of the first Canadian municipalities to join the WaterSense® Program. WaterSense®  is a partnership program led by the US Environmental Protection Agency that brings together a variety of stakeholders to:

  • Promote the value of water efficiency
  • Provide consumers with easy ways to save water, as both a label for products and an information resource to help people use water more efficiently
  • Encourage innovation in manufacturing
  • Decrease water use and reduce strain on water resources and infrastructure

The WaterSense® certification program includes a standard for bathroom sink faucets and accessories, toilets, urinals and showerheads. The program also recently launched a certification process for automated irrigation controllers.
